This book has many many flaws, sometimes I thought I'd have to stop because of how annoyed I was, it took me a while to warm up to the love interest, but in the end, I ended up really liking this book overall.
I said I'd have to rant about something in a status, so I'm going to start with that. My biggest pet peeve in M/M books is when an MC is always aroused. You know what I mean "he felt he dick throb", "his dick twitched", "he felt himself getting hard", and this happened in this book EVERY OTHER SCENE. I swear to God if the story hadn't kept me reading, I would've stopped just because of that. Some books are bad with this pet peeve of mine, but this book was the
worst I have ever read in that regard. EVERYWHERE he went, everything he looked at Zack "felt his dick throb". Even crimes scenes for God's sake! Now, I'm not a guy, so maybe this thing really happens all the time, but I don't want to fucking read about it every other paragraph! Arghhh! And worst of was when Zack got aroused by imagining the love interest having sex with THE GUY THAT HAD JUST BEEN MURDERED. WTF?!
Actually that's another thing that bothered me, how every single person in this book got him horny. It's not something that I especially like to read about, the MC being attracted to 482948 guys even during the time he hooks up with the love interest. It just really annoys me, and since Zack obviously can't control his dick, it happened all the freaking time.
Anyways, I'm done with the rant. So like I said, the story really kept me reading. I loved the mystery part a lot! I'm the kind of person who can get really bored about the mystery part of a book (even though it's one of my favourite genre within the m/m genre), but this one held my interest from the start till they found the murderer.
As for the characters, they weren't the best I've ever read, but I did enjoy them. Dante took a bit of warming up to (I was disgusted with the way he acted at first), but in the end we won me over. Zack was okay, other than his constant twitching cock, and his parter, Claire, was a really nice side character I really liked.
All in all, this book was a bit unrealistic (I mean, at some point Zack and Dante have sex in a room next to a crime scene filled with cops!!!)), had way too much sex in it, annoyed the crap out of my, but I surprisingly ended up enjoying it a lot.
